Where AI Helps a Small Business, and Where It Does Not
AI is useful for some jobs and risky for others. A practical way to tell which is which.
AI tools can save a small business real time, but they are not the answer to everything. It helps to know where they fit.
They work well on repeated tasks with plenty of text: drafting replies, summarising documents, sorting enquiries and pulling details from invoices. Someone should still check the result.
They need more care wherever a wrong answer is costly. AI can sound confident and still be wrong. Prices, legal advice, medical advice and anything sent to customers without review all need a person in the loop.
Good data matters more than the choice of tool. If your product details and policies are scattered or out of date, an AI assistant will repeat those mistakes.
Think about privacy too. Before you paste customer data into any tool, check how that data is stored and used.
Start with one small task that takes up hours each week. Measure the time saved and the mistakes made for a month. If it helps, take the next step. If it does not, you have lost very little.
