What Happens After Your Software Goes Live?
Launch day is the start, not the finish. Here is what running software really needs.
Many business owners treat launch day as the finish line. In practice, it is when real use begins, and real use finds things that testing did not.
In the first weeks, expect small problems and many questions from staff. Plan time for fixes and training. People may go back to their old habits if nobody helps them through the change.
After that comes regular care. Software depends on libraries, servers and outside services that keep changing. Security updates in particular should not wait.
Backups need attention too. A backup is only useful if it can be restored, so test a restore from time to time. Someone should also be told when the system goes down.
Your business will change as well. New tax rules, new branches or a new way of working will need changes to the software. Keep a simple list of requests, and decide together what matters most.
Before you sign a contract, ask what support is included after launch, for how long and at what cost. A plan agreed early is far cheaper than an emergency later.
