User Testing Before Launch: A Checklist for Business Owners
You know your business best. Here is how to test new software before your customers do.
Your developer tests that the software works. Only you and your staff can test that it works for your business.
Use real examples: a real bill, a real customer and a real return. Sample data hides problems.
Go through a full day, from opening to closing, and include the month-end report. Then try the unusual cases, such as a cancelled order or a part payment.
Ask your staff to test without help. Where they get stuck, a new customer will get stuck too. Try it on phones and on slow internet.
Note each problem with the steps and a screenshot, and sort them into must fix and can wait. Sign off only when the must-fix list is empty.
