How to Tell If Your Software Investment Is Working
Set a few simple measures before you build, then check them after launch.
Many businesses buy software and never check whether it paid off. It is easier if you decide what success looks like before you start.
Measure the present first. How long does a bill take? How many errors occur in a month? How long does the month-end report take?
Pick two or three numbers linked to the reason you bought it. Hours saved, fewer mistakes and faster collections are all good measures.
Give people time to learn. Compare after two or three months, not two weeks, and ask if staff are using it or quietly returning to paper.
If a number has not moved, find out why. The cause may be training or process, not the software itself.
